A Visit to the P.A.S.E.R. in Manfredonia: The EVS Volunteers meet the Volunteers of Civil Protection

On November 24th 2011 we, volunteers of APS Mondo Nuovo, visited P.A.S.E.R., a voluntary organization of National Civil Protection, based in Manfredonia
The organisation was started in 1991and initially provided the community with the medical suppor. During the years the scope of their activities widened greatly. Nowadays P.A.S.E.R. is a well-established voluntary organisation which  gives medical transportation services, cooperates with public bodies in emergency situations, assissts the police in holding local events, organizes trainings for its volunteers, tries to involve people in voluntary activities.
It’s one of the members of Ce.Se.Vo.Ca. network.
The volunteers that work with P.A.S.E.R. are not only the young people doing their National Civil Service
They are also local people of different ages with different social background. Before they start the activities they take part in trainings which is an important stage. Once they get adequate training they work or support the on-going projects of the organization.
During our short but very informative meeting Matteo Perillo (the president of P.A.S.E.R.) also told us about the evacuation simulation day which is conducted together with other voluntary organizations of the region and the official workers.
These simulation activities make a part of the professional training.

I am very glad that here in Italy I have an opportunity to get to know organizations working in the field of civil protection. Maybe when I come back to Hungary I can use this experience in my own work. In P.A.S.E.R., for example, I could see how can work a system with volunteers.

Thanks for organizing this event to the staff of Mondo Nuovo, P.A.S.E.R., The Province of Foggia and special thanks to Sara who translated for us from Italian to English together with our mentor.
